Groundwater, surface water, and evaporated water are three important parts of the water cycle. In this lesson, we will learn about runoff and what causes it. We will also explore its impact on the As infiltration divides water resources into surface and subsurface water, it is a key process in the hydrological cycle. The infiltration depends on the availability of water at the soil surface and on soil characteristics which influence the water retention capacity and hydraulic conductivity. The same water has been on the earth for millions of years, there is never any more or less water. There are many steps in the water cycle including evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, sublimation, infiltration and percolation.

Participants: 20 students, Lycée Wiltz Organised by: Carla Camargos Objectives: Identify soil textures Demonstrate how water infiltrate into the soil Critical discussion about groundwater and runoff Experiment description: 2020-06-10 · Infiltration. When the surface runoff does not return to the hydrosphere, it is known as infiltration. Instead, this water is absorbed by the soil. It goes deep into the soil and adds to the groundwater. Since it seeps into the ground to become pure water, it is known as infiltration.

Fido assists by making depressions in the ground to demonstrate how low points in the ground will accumulate water, allowing it to recharge groundwater. Some water infiltrates deep into the ground and replenishes aquifers, which can store freshwater for long periods of time. Some infiltration stays close to the land surface and can seep back into surface-water bodies (and the ocean) as groundwater discharge.
