Adler, MD, professor of neurosurgery and radiation oncology at Stanford University Medical Center, developed the CyberKnife® System in 1987 after completing a fellowship in Sweden with Lars Leksell, MD, the founder of radiosurgery. Lars Leksell (1907–1986) was a Swedish physician and Professor of Neurosurgery at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the inventor of radiosurgery.
